Cookie Policy
Document Last updated:
This page explains how CalorieSwap.app uses cookies, similar browser storage technologies (such as localStorage), and third-party advertising tags. Calorie Swapper is a free, ad-supported service.
The Short Version
- We store only a couple of small items in your browser's local storage to make the site work.
- Google serves the ads on this site (Google AdSense) and measures ad performance (Google Ads / gtag). Google and its partners may set cookies and similar identifiers in your browser for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not run our own analytics tracker.
What Calorie Swapper Stores Directly
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
calorieswap.cookie-notice.v1 | Essential (localStorage) | Remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice so we don't show it again. | Until you clear browser data |
calorieswap.last-search | Functional (localStorage) | Optionally remembers your last food query so it persists across reloads. Not shared with anyone. | Until you clear browser data |
Third-Party Advertising Cookies
This site is supported by advertising. We load tags from Google AdSense (to display ads) and Google Ads / gtag.js (to measure when an ad click led to a successful swap). When these tags load, Google and its advertising partners may place cookies and other identifiers in your browser to:
- Show ads on this site and across the web,
- Personalize ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites,
- Measure the performance of ads and conversions,
- Detect fraud and abuse, and limit how often you see the same ad.
These cookies are set by Google and its partners — not by Calorie Swapper — and are governed by their respective privacy policies. Common ones include cookies on the google.com, doubleclick.net, and googlesyndication.com domains.
Conversion Tracking
When you successfully receive swap suggestions, our Google Ads tag records an anonymous "conversion" event so we can see which ad campaigns are working. This event does not include your name, email, or any account identifier (Calorie Swapper has no accounts). It may include the food name you searched and standard data Google collects with gtag (such as a Google advertising identifier and IP address).
Your Choices
Manage Calorie Swapper's own storage: visit the Cookie Preferences page to view and clear the items Calorie Swapper saves in your browser.
Manage Google's advertising cookies: opt out of personalized ads from Google at My Ad Center or Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalized advertising from many participating vendors at aboutads.info (U.S.), youronlinechoices.eu (EU), or youradchoices.ca (Canada).
Browser-level controls: most browsers let you block third-party cookies or clear all site data. If you block localStorage entirely, Calorie Swapper will still work — you'll just see the cookie notice on every visit.
EU/UK and California Users
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a region with similar consent requirements, advertising and measurement tags should only load after you provide consent. If you believe a tag is loading without proper consent in your region, please contact us so we can investigate.
California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can exercise that right by enabling Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser and by using the Google opt-outs above.
